Search and Rescue Training Academy (SARTA)

Helpful Hints

Keep these hints in mind during the Academy to ensure your success!

  1. You are responsible for all of your equipment while at the Academy. You will be expected to keep track of it, and take proper care of it at all times. You will be held accountable for equipment lost or damaged by neglect (yes, even if it is your own).
  2. Laundry equipment will be available at the Academy, and you will be afforded the opportunity to use it.
  3. Showers and sinks will be available and you will be inspected every day to ensure you are maintaining proper personal hygiene. Keep in mind that you will be sharing sleeping quarters with seven other recruits, so keeping yourself clean is mandatory. Those who do not, are usually 'encouraged' to do so by their fellow tent mates.
  4. Bear in mind that once the Academy begins, YOU CANNOT QUIT! Besides, if you've made it this far, the Academy will offer you no challenge that you cannot handle. If you become sick or injured, the Advisors will be there to make the determination on your status at that point.
  5. There are no stupid questions. If something is not clear or right in your own mind ASK!
  6. Show proper respect to all Academy Staff, pay attention, and follow their instructions.
  7. Memorize these two words: 'Can Do'

You are completing the first steps of which will be a very rewarding life experience. There is no greater calling than helping others in their time of need, and you are about to become a major player in the life saving mission of the Linn County Sheriff's Office.

Take great pride in yourself and for being a part of it.
