The Linn County Search and Rescue Post is a highly professional, extremely motivated group of young men and women who serve in one of the most outstanding emergency search and rescue units in the State. The Post is an on-call unit; meaning they are called to respond to search and rescue emergencies any time of the day or night, in all weather conditions.
Each prospective member of the Search and Rescue Post must undergo a formal application process. This includes an interview, a background investigation, and a physical aptitude test. Successful applicants are then required to complete the Search and Rescue Training Academy; a physically and mentally challenging course of 160+ hours of instruction packed into eleven days.
Recruits are immersed in wilderness survival training, first aid, emergency water procurement, maps and compass reading, nigh search training and much more. The Academy's primary emphasis is on character building, teamwork, and self-discipline. Physical ability is nowhere near as important as your strength of character and a 'can do' attitude. Without your teammates, you will fail... without you, they will fail.
The Academy is tough. After all, nothing worthwhile is easily attained. Young men and women who successfully complete the Academy have earned the right to be proud of themselves, the unit to which they belong, and the duties they will be asked to perform.
The annual recruit drive begins March 1st of every year, and lasts through the first weekend of June. Applications for membership are only accepted during the recruitment drive, so don't delay. |
