Working in Linn County's schools, Linn County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers (SROs) teach a variety of classes, including educating students in areas like drug awareness, harassment, theft, personal safety, DARE, and gun safety and awareness.
SROs work closely with schools, counseling kids in partnership with parents and teachers; helping to make our schools a happier, safer place to learn. SROs perform frequent, random, high visibility patrols of Linn County schools with prevention of crime, encouragement of safety, and availability to the school community as their objectives. By attending school sports games, staff meetings, and other school events, SROs truly become a part of the school community.
Because SROs are sworn Deputy Sheriffs assigned to the Criminal Patrol Division, SROs are also responsible for investigating crimes reported to have occurred on school property. This includes all aspects of criminal investigation, including forensic collection of evidence, interview and interrogation, arrest, and providing testimony in court.
