National Night Out is an annual event that helps to increase Neighborhood Watch participation by promoting the work that police, fire, residents and businesses do together to make the Linn County Sheriff’s Office rural neighborhoods safer and better places to live. Tuesday, August 1st, 2017, is America’s night to give crime and drugs a going away party. Join Sheriff Bruce Riley and his staff, as they attend National Night Out parties held around the county, and in your local neighborhood.   These free events will also stress the importance of having the community work together in crime prevention efforts, and that cooperation is paying off!  Here are the top 10 reasons you should host a National Night Out Party:

  1. Have fun!
  2. It’s a great way to meet your neighbors.
  3. Gives you the opportunity to organize a Neighborhood Watch program on your street.
  4. Increases the sense of belonging in your neighborhood.
  5. It’s a platform for sharing crime prevention and safety information with your neighbors.
  6. Presents the opportunity to start a neighborhood email directory, or join NextDoor.
  7. Start a tradition.
  8. Connect you with your neighborhood Deputy Sheriffs.
  9. Great way to discover your neighborhoods’ hidden talents (e.g. dance, music, etc.).
  10. Helps you make community connections.
