Amateur Radio Emergency Services (A.R.E.S.) is a national organization operating under the auspices of the American Radio Relay League. Its purpose is to provide communications in the event of an emergency or disaster. In addition, to hone their skills, many Amateurs provide radio communications during public events, such as races, walks and fund raisers. LCARES Inc. (Linn County ARES) also works in cooperation with and in support of ARES organizations in Linn County.

Regular member meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the briefing room of the Linn County Sheriff`s Office.

There are two Linn County ARES nets each week:

  • VHF net on 146.610 PL 167.9 every Monday at 7 p.m. with a backup simplex frequency of 146.500
  • HF Net on 3964.0 KHz at 7:20 p.m. every Monday as well

Anyone can check into either of these nets.
