Citizens Academy

Ever wondered what really sets a Sheriff’s Office apart from a Police Department? What happens behind the scenes when someone dials 911? Curious about how the jail operates? If you’ve ever wanted an inside look at the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, this is your chance!

Our Citizens Academy gives you a hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience with the people who keep Linn County safe. Open to any qualified, interested resident 18 or older (16 and 17-year-olds may apply if they attend with a parent or guardian), this 9-week program runs Tuesday evenings from 6:00–9:00 PM, September 15 through November 10. You’ll also join us for one Sunday field trip to the firearms range and Animal Control.

You’ll meet deputies and specialists from every division, get classroom instruction, and learn all about patrol, investigations, corrections, firearms, defensive tactics, narcotics, dive recovery, search and rescue, the District Attorney’s Office, and so much more!

Classes are taught by the same professionals who do the work every day, and you can expect an atmosphere that’s both informative and genuinely fun.
