Linn County Sheriff Jim Yon reports his office received a call on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 5:40 p.m., regarding possible human remains in the area of Detroit Lake. Fire crews responded to the report of a burning vehicle on the south side of the lake. Fire crews suppressed the fire and reported finding human remains in the vehicle.
Linn County Deputies were at the location throughout Monday night and continued to process the scene Tuesday. At this time, we have limited information on the deceased individual or incident. We will be working with the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office to discover the cause of death and the identity of the individual.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oregon State Fire Marshall’s Office, Oregon State Police, the Oregon State Medical Examiners Office and the Linn County District Attorney’s Office.
