Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley reports that over the last week his deputies have responded to, two possible animal neglect complaints on Riverside Drive, Albany, Oregon. The complaints consisted of underfed, skinny horses and a dead goat.

On February 3, a deputy from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control who specializes in animal abuse and neglect cases, responded and spoke with the owner.   The deputy noted several horses all eating from an available bale of hay.  One 30-year-old horse in particular was very skinny and according to the owner has lost weight.  The owner provided documentation that within the last few months their Veterinarian had checked on the horse.

The deputy also saw two goats on the property; one was in good health and the other, according to the owner, had died of bloat.

On February 10, deputies were called again to the residence in response to additional complaints. The horses were found to be eating and had appropriate care.

This case is still under investigation and the Sheriff’s Office is continuing to monitor the situation.
