Linn County Sheriff’s Office Captain Michelle Duncan reports today at 6:30 a.m., the Linn County Dispatch Center received a call from the train company saying their engineer just reported hitting a pedestrian on the tracks. The tracks are located east of I-5, along Highway 164, going towards Jefferson. Deputies responded and found the pedestrian, Steven Graham, 45, from Texas was deceased.
Investigation showed Graham was walking his bicycle along one of the rails of the track. The Amtrack, which was traveling eastbound was unable to stop before hitting Graham. It is unknown why Graham was on the tracks or where he was coming from.
Graham’s family has been notified. Deputies were assisted by the Linn County Medical Examiner, Amtrack Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad Police.
