Linn County Undersheriff Jim Yon reports on July 5, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. members of Linn County Search and Rescue and Crook County Search and Rescue were conducting a follow up search in the Marion Lake area for Sanford Rice. They had just established a camp for the night on the northeast side of the lake when they were contacted by three hikers needing assistance. One of the hikers, Corianne Anita Rice-Heinke 47-year-old from Eugene, had a serious knee injury and needed assistance to get back to the trailhead. Rice-Heinke is the daughter of Sanford Rice.

Rice-Heinke was hiking on the northeast side of Marion Lake with two others when they encountered a large number of trees that had blown down over the trail they were hiking on. While making their way over the trees, Rice-Heinke injured her knee and was unable to continue hiking.

Additional Linn County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue members along with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Posse responded to the area to assist with coordinating a rescue. Rice-Heinke was returned to the trailhead at 11:50 p.m.
