Linn County Sheriff Jim Yon wants to remind people to drink responsibly this Labor Day Weekend.  As summer comes to an end, many will be closing out the summer with one last get-together, trip to the lake, drive around the county or barbecue.  This will also be one of the last weekends for motorcyclists to enjoy the last of the clear, dry roadways.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), although motorcycles only account for about 3% of registered vehicles on the roadway, they are overrepresented in fatal crashes, especially involving alcohol.  Please drive careful this weekend as the weather will be nice and the roads will be full of vehicles.  Take extra time getting to your destination.

This weekend, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office will bring in extra deputies for DUII enforcement.  Although deputies will be looking for all impaired drivers, there will be extra emphasis on impaired motorcyclists.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office wishes you a safe and fun Labor Day weekend.
