Linn County Sheriff Jim Yon announces Sheriff’s Office the Civil Office is now taking Applications for both renewals and new Concealed Handgun Licenses. We had previously restricted new CHL applications due to COVID-19 issues and fingerprinting.

New CHL applicants need to call the Civil Office at (541) 967-3907 and make an appointment. Our Civil Office is working through a backlog of applicants from when we were closed during COVID-19 restrictions and are processing NEW CHL’s by APPOINTMENT ONLY. If you are a new applicant, you must have a Proof of Competency (from taking CHL class or DD214 from the military), identification such as a driver’s license proving you are a Linn county resident and a completed application including two listed references. We ask you have all the documentation ready and completed when you show up for your appointment. You can find applications here on our website at linnsheriff.org.

Renewals for current CHL holders can be sent in using standard mail, e-mail or in person with no appointment.

Please remember we are still adhering to social distancing and need to be six feet apart, so we will limit the number of people allowed in the Civil Office at a time.

If you have any questions, please call the Civil Office at (541) 967-3907.
